Alliance Elementary School is having an “udderly” fun school year. The entire school is taking part in a literature study of the "Click Clack" series of books by the children’s author Doreen Cronin.
Each month the students will participate in a special activity that coincides with this study. In September, the school had a special kick-off celebration using the book “Click, Clack, Moo…Cows That Type.”
In October, the book “Click, Clack, BOO” was used and the students participated in a Read-A-Thon. Any student who completed a Home Reading Log during the month received a Free Kids Meal from Alliance’s Chick-fil-a. What made it even more special is that the Chick-fil-a Cow delivered the meals to AES, along with the generous owners, Dan and Chloe Brandenstein. Amy Recchiuti’s 2nd Grade Class had the most students complete a Home Reading Log and received a special Click Clack Pumpkin, painted by Lynda Slack to decorate their classroom!

This month, students will celebrate the 12 Days of "Click Clack Christmas" with fun activities, events, and a service project each day, starting on Dec. 4. Many exciting monthly events are planned for January-through April, too.
In May, TheaterWorks USA out of New York City will bring “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type: The Musical” to the AES gymnasium. This amazing experience is generously provided by retired AES Teacher, Kathy Kramer and her husband, Dr. Steve Kramer.

In conjunction with this literature study, AES is participating in the Discovery Dairy’s Adopt a Cow project. It is a year-long educational initiative that connects classrooms or families with a specific dairy calf on a local farm. Participants receive regular updates, photos, and activity sheets about "their" calf, learning about the dairy industry, what cows eat, how they are cared for, and the process of making dairy products. The program aims to provide a firsthand look at dairy farming and incorporates educational materials aligned with common core standards.
The cow AES has adopted is from the Double Platinum Farm in Van Wert, Ohio and is named Elsa! Students are excited about the updates that are received about Elsa each month.
