Alphabet Soup Artwork

The 1st graders at Alliance Early Learning School created artwork inspired by artist Jasper Johns called "Alphabet Soup!" The students analyzed artwork and discussed how artists create art to express feelings or emotions with things we see everyday around us. The students worked to create a piece of art using the alphabet with thick and thin lines for the letters while using oil pastels as well as colored markers, paint brushes and water for the backgrounds. The students then were introduced to shadow art and the art element, value. In the final steps of this project the students added a napkin, spoon, and shadow with black pastel to make it realistic.

Rodman Public Library has 12 of these masterpieces on display for people to enjoy throughout March! We encourage families and community members to stop by the library to check out some books and check out the artwork from our awesome young Aviators!
