This weekend, the Alliance Aviators will bring the beloved Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” to life on the Alliance High School stage.
The musical follows the story of Ariel, a curious young mermaid, who wants more than anything to explore the human world. Tricked by Ursula the Sea Witch, Ariel gets her legs at the cost of her voice. She soon meets Prince Eric and the story continues with many of the popular songs and themes fans have loved for decades.
“The story itself has so many interesting characters each with their own conflict and struggle,” said Carrie Chunat, choir teacher at AHS. “Whether you're a parent struggling to manage a head-strong teenager, a sister who always feels less-important, a best friend worried about their friend's choices, or a young adult struggling to discover their place in a world they don't feel like they belong in, there is someone and something in the story that you can relate to.”
This year, the cast will include nearly 40 students from kindergarten to 4th grade along with the 40 AHS students. The younger students will perform as the various sea creatures and kitchen staff helping to bring the fun musical numbers to life throughout the show.
There will be five chances to see “The Little Mermaid” before it’s gone.

“This show has so much to offer- powerful singing, comedic scenes, big dance numbers, lots of special effects, and a storyline that everyone can relate to,” Chunat said. “It really is a show with something for everyone!”
