Alliance Early Learning School

\r\n

Students in Crystal Gibbons’ class recently finished a learning unit on Winter Wonderland, where they learned about all things winter. They read the book "The Snowy Day" and discussed all the things that Peter did in the snow. Afterwards, the kids made a snow picture out of fake snow. They were able to create all of the activities that Peter did: draw in the snow, make tracks in the snow, etc. They added a paper Peter cut-out to finish their pictures. The next day, the students did a retelling of the story and completed comprehension activities about the book. Each student was given their very own copy of the book to take home from our monthly book sponsors.

Students at AELS had the opportunity to explore the galaxy using the inflatable Star Lab. Tracy Bowser took each class on a journey through space to look at stars, constellations and the moon. It was awesome having our very own planetarium right here in Alliance.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

\r\n

First grade students spent a lot of time this month learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  They read stories, watched videos and created a timeline of some of the important events in Dr. King's life. Students learned that all of the wonderful accomplishments achieved by Dr. King began with a dream -- a dream of peace and equality for everyone. The students wrote their own dreams for how to make the world a better place, and it's clear that the future is in good hands.

Students have been given their report card for the second nine weeks this past Friday. Please ask them if they have it if you haven’t seen it yet. 7th Grade

\r\n

Seventh grade students will be "tasting" historical fiction books to decide on which one they will want to read for literature circles. Students will be dining at Mann's Peerless Pizzeria and Stauffer's Candlelight Bistro. They will be given a chance to look over a menu of books that include descriptions of each. Then they will order their preferences. In the coming weeks, students will work together to read and discuss their books. Students will be working on character development, setting, comprehension and prediction skills.
