The AMS tracksters continued their successful 2018 season at the Lake Meet of Champions Middle School Invitational on Sat, 4/28. Competing against a very strong field of 17 teams - including the likes of Jackson, Massillon, Glen Oak, North Canton, Perry, Field, Lake, Louisville, Marlington, Cuyahoga Falls, Woodridge, and others - both the Aviator boys' and girls' teams finished in 5th place. Jordan Simms dominated the long jump field, setting a new meet record in winning the event by almost two feet with a personal best leap of 18 feet, 7 inches, a mark which currently ranks 6th in the state. Simms also placed 5th in the 200m (26.04), and anchored the 6th place 4x100m relay team (52.11). Jermaine Lawson shaved over a second off his time in the 110 Hurdles, running a blazing 16.64 to finish 2nd. In the process, he moved into the top 10 in the State. Lawson also ran a leg on the 3rd place 4x200m relay team (1:48.31) Li'Airah Prather, who is ranked in the top 10 in the state in the 100 meters, placed 3rd in 100 meters in 13.29, 4th in the 200m (29.36; 29.09 in prelims), and ran a leg on the 3rd place 4x100m relay team (56.48). Reese Grisez placed 3rd in the 100 Hurdles (17.93; 17.73 in prelims) and 6th in the 200 Hurdles (33.43), while also running a leg on the 3rd place 4x200m relay team (2:01.03). Carva Hancock took 2nd in the 200 Hurdles (29.88) and 4th in the High Jump (4 feet, 10 inches). Rylan Thomas placed 4th in the 100m (12.43; 12.30 in prelims), 5th in the 400m (1:00.24), and was on the 3rd place 4x200m relay (2:01.03). Gage Ford placed 4th in the Long Jump (16 feet, 5 inches) and was on the 6th place 4x100m relay (52.11). La'Kasja Edwards placed 5th in the Discus (73 feet, 5 inches). Emma Huff tied for 4th in the High Jump with a PR jump of 4 feet, 4 inches. Leah Cameron placed 6th in the 200m (30.07; 29.13 in prelims) & 8th in the 100m (14.02; 13.63 in prelims). The athletic department will be hosting free physicals good for the entire 2018-19 school year on May 10th to any interested current 6th-11th grade student. In order to get your physical on this date all paperwork must be submitted electronically by going to alliance-oh.finalforms.com by this Tuesday, May 1st. No paper forms will be accepted. Students without all paperwork submitted by May 1st will still be required to complete the paperwork online and then obtain their own physical. Five students from AMS participated in the OMEA District 8 Honor Band on Saturday, February 17 and Saturday, February 24. Students rehearsed at The University of Mount Union and Alliance High School, with a culminating concert in the AHS auditorium. Professional musicians and conductors from across Ohio worked with students throughout both days, providing techniques and guidance on every instrument. Congratulations to Patrick Burse (percussion), Thomas Butt (trombone), Jacob Collins (trumpet), Brooke McDermitt (clarinet), and Jordan Schwartz (alto saxophone) on a job well done!

6th grade Humanities students took a mock flight aboard Aviator Airlines to Ancient Egypt to kick off a unit about ancient civilizations. The flight was complete with boarding passes, inflight movie, and a snack for first class passengers.
Alliance Middle School is having a fundraiser at McDonald’s on E State Street November 16 from 5-8 pm. This event will raise money for student incentives for positive behavior.

The 2017-18 Aviator Sports Boosters Kick-off will be Monday, August 7th at 7PM featuring an Aviator Sports Rally on the Glamorgan Castle Lawn. In the case of inclement weather, it will be moved to the AHS Gym. The event will feature the AHS marching band, AHS & AMS cheerleaders and all AHS and AMS fall teams and coaches. The HANGAR will offer a special kick-off discount coupon. The HANGAR will be open from 5:30-7PM so you can purchase your Aviator gear. The AHS ticket office will be open from 5:30-7PM, and Aviator Sports Booster memberships will be available from 5:30-6:30PM in the AHS Lobby and from 6:30PM-thru the conclusion of the rally on the Castle Lawn.
August 21st, 2017 will be Open House for AMS. 5-6 p.m. for 6th grade and 6-7 p.m. for 7th and 8th grade.

AHS Boy’s Soccer Meeting Any boy who will be attending Alliance High School next fall and is interested in playing soccer should attend a meeting being held this Sunday May 7th at 6:00 PM at the locker room at Rockhill Field. This meeting is for boys currently attending the high school as well as eighth grade boys planning on playing soccer at the high school this fall. Information regarding summer soccer and physicals will be distributed. Both players and their parents are encouraged to attend. Students in design and modeling are partaking in their ankle and foot orthosis design for a student with cerebral palsy. Students will present their solutions to the class. The prototypes will be on display in the showcase outside of the library for Grandparents' day.

The Alliance City Health Department provides immunizations to the following VFC eligible children: -Children who do not have any form of health insurance -Children who have one of the Medicaid Insurances: CareSource, Buckeye, United Healthcare Community, Molina or Paramount -Children who are Under-Insured (parent must provide insurance documentation of under –insured status) Cost is $20 per immunization; sliding fee scale is available. Shots are free with an eligible Medicaid card (see list above). Parents must bring insurance card and shot record to the appointment. Child must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian.
