Cosmetology is a two-year evening program for adult students in a comprehensive post-secondary setting.  Subject matter and learning activities are concerned with hair cutting, hair coloring, permanent waves, thermal styling, manicures, chemical relaxing, facials and make-up, skin care and salon business.  Cosmetology is designed to prepare students for employment in a variety of cosmetology positions.  Students who successfully complete this program can expect to be employed as entry-level employees in the areas of receptionist, stylist,  manicurist, esthetician, cosmetic chemist, hair colorist, and salon owner in companies of varying sizes and to advance in their chosen areas.

Program Description

The Cosmetology Program is designed to prepare students to successfully pass the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology examination and enter into employment as a licensed Cosmetologist.

We believe the Cosmetology course has a three-fold purpose:

1. The educational aim of the Alliance Career Center is to develop programs appropriate for local needs.  We believe adults should be provided with programs that prepare them to live in our community and surrounding areas as effective citizens.

2. We believe our facilities should help adults train and retrain to help keep pace with the accelerating rate of change in the workplace.

3. It should be of equal importance to instill in the student a sense of responsibility toward their employer and fellow workers as well as to the client or patron.  With opportunities for leadership experiences, we hope to develop their ability to get along with others, to have tolerance and sense of humor toward human feelings.  We feel that the qualities of integrity and responsibility that the students learn will help them become more productive and employable citizens.

Alliance City Schools offers several full-time programs for Post-Secondary Adult Vocational Education.  Upon successful completion, you will receive a Vocational Career Passport, which includes your certificate from the State of Ohio Department of Education, your personal competencies and a personal data sheet.  We take pride in our small class size which we feel gives you a better education.

In addition, we have an internship program, career training and counseling for all students.  We also have a Financial Aide Officer to assist you with tuition and books.
