Alliance Early Learning School

Erica Thompson and Deborah Kelley's class has been having so much fun with music. The children have been learning about different types of music like orchestras and bands, classical music versus band music. They have been learning the names of different instruments and hearing their sounds and even had some guests come in to play various instruments including a flute, drums, trumpet, clarinet and bassoon. The children have also had fun being in their own band and playing instruments each day of the week. Music is so much fun.

Brian Bader's multi-age class has been super busy learning about some exciting things to kick off the New Year with a bang. The students learned about voting and the upcoming 2020 presidential election. To incorporate how voting works into the classroom the students made voter registration cards and will be voting for different things throughout the remainder of the school year such as what snack they should have in the afternoon. This week they voted for who they want to win the Super Bowl. The students also learned about the Super Bowl and researched the two teams that made it into the championship game, the 49ers and the Chiefs. They enjoyed casting their votes and they were excitedly awaiting the results.

Top Gun students had the opportunity to go bowling last week. They had a lot of fun.

6th Grade

As we move along in the school year, we need your continued support in stressing the importance of academics to your students. Sometimes, raising a student’s grade can simply be accomplished by turning in work they’ve already completed. Make sure to diligently check the Home Access Center and ask your student about any missing coursework they may have.

Update on Content Areas

\r\n
  • ELA: Next week we will be continuing our lesson on the Dust Bowl. Students will be writing an introduction and two body paragraphs. They will practice citing evidence (avoiding plagiarism), determining when to paraphrase or use a direct quote, and writing reflective explanations. They will peer edit and revise their writing. We will also be looking at different examples of student writing and analyzing what makes an exceptional essay, and what needs to be revised.

  • Social Studies: Next week in Social Studies, students will be taking the test over The Byzantine Empire. Students will also be reading the second section of their historical novels and turn in the second packet on Friday.

  • Math: Next week we will be working on surface areas of prisms and composite figures.

  • Science: We will be finishing the water cycle and will likely begin Ocean Currents.
