Golf Outing Raises Money for Scholarship

The 11th Annual Brett Streza Memorial Golf Outing will take place Saturday, June 1 at Tannenhauf Golf Club.

The Four Man Scramble costs $65 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart, meal and an optional skins game. All proceeds from the scramble go towards the Brett Streza Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to graduates at Alliance High School.

In years past, the scholarship was given to only one graduating senior; however, this year, the scholarship was given to two students who show academic and athletic success. Emilly Swonger and James Gray, Jr. received $1,000 scholarships to assist with the cost of college.

A total of 11 scholarships have been given in the last ten years totaling $9,900. Each year the scholarship grows. The scholarship committee hopes to one day provide renewable scholarships for the recipients, instead of the one-time scholarships they have been giving.

The scholarship fund was set up in memory of Brett Streza, an AHS graduate from the class of 1982. Streza was a hard worker his entire life with a big heart. He touched the lives of everyone he met. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 42 after a battle with cancer.

The golf scramble provides the largest contribution to the scholarship fund and allows the scholarship to remain. While the scramble is a yearly success, the scholarship committee relies on sponsors and donations to assist with funding the scholarship. A fundraiser will be held of Friday, May 31 at Buffalo Wild Wings. Mention the Brett Streza Memorial Scholarship to have a portion of your bill donated.
